Pennsylvania Animals: Bobcat
(Lynx rufus)
The amazing bobcat lives in only mountain ranges away from people in Pennsylvania. The bobcat, Lynx rufus, is a mammal in the cat family, Felidae, Carnivora. It is also known as the wild cat and bay lynx. The bobcat is about 71 cm. (28 inches) long and has a short tail. Large males may weigh 11 kg. (24 lb.). The long soft fur is pale brown with black splotches. The face is like a domestic cat but larger. It has long heavy legs and furred feet. Bobcats live in forests and on plains from southern Canada to northern Mexico. They eat rodents and rabbits. by Ed
