Pennsylvania Animals: White -Tailed Deer

The white-tail belongs to the deer family. In North America there are other deer called caribou, elk, and the mule deer. Except for the size, all four are very much alike. The white- tail is the smallest member of the deer family. There are more than twelve million white-tails in North America. In Pennsylvania, white-tailed deer are really pests. They come into people's gardens and eat flowers. The scientific name for the white-tailed deer is Odocoileus virginianus. White-tails usually eat grass, bark, leaves and fruits. by Derek

The white -tailed deer eats grass and other plants. It looks like a baby pony with antlers. It lives in the woods with other deer. They are at least 7 feet long and the biggest one is 7 feet off the ground. by Rory

The white-tailed deer is cool because he can run fast. He can jump very high. His habitat is the forest. The white-tailed deer is a mammal. The white-tailed deer's babies look the same as their parents. It has a white tail.
