The copperheads live in ponds, swamps or streams in the eastern United States and in Texas. Copperheads are in the Crotalid family. They are 3 feet long and covered with scales. Each has a small ridge down the middle. It has a light brown body with dark marking on it. Copperheads are very poisonous. Copperheads eat insects, frogs, mice and lizards. Copperheads have to beware of pigs, other snakes and birds. The scientific name is Agkistrodon contortrix mokasen. -Jeffrey
