Pennsylvania Animals: Rat

drawing by Bobby

A rat is a mammal. It is two inches tall and one foot long. It lives in grassy places, farms and in cities. It eats nuts, fruit and a lot of other foods. Its enemies are snakes, owls, and humans. It protects itself with its claws and teeth. When the baby rats are born, they can be as big as your fingernail. The rat's tail is hairless. -Bobby
