I was born in Bandung, West Java and went to school in Java and the United States. Currently I am teach at the Department of Pest and Plant Diseases, Bogor Agricultural University at Bogor.
To me conservation is not merely about conserving the natural rainforests and other forests in the world, but including the conservation practices that should be implemented in many agricultural practices in the world (e.g the use of natural enemies instead of pesticides). In addition, I see also that there is a separate world between the conservationist and the agriculturist. When one talks about conservation, they usually concentrate on large animals (many of them cute-looking animals), insects don't really come into the picture. In contrast, the agriculturist talks a lot about insects, but in the sense of insects as pests. People seem to forget the important role insects play in the food webs, i.e. as detritivore and carnivore.
I'm ready to answer your questions about the role insects play in the environment. Because I am in Indonesia, I can also answer questions about our habitats and animals, like the orangutan and komodo.
