Susan Elbin

Susan Elbin is WPTI's Program Assistant in Education to primarily assist with The Wild Ones. Susan holds an MS degree in Ecology from The Pennsylvania State University and is a doctoral candidate in Ecology and Evolution at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.

She comes to WPTI from the Wildlife Conservation Society, where she worked for 13 years in their Bronx Zoo Education Department, Ornithology Department, and Science Resource Center, where she worked on a variety of projects including studies of avian ecology and behavior in disturbed/restored grassland habitats and social behavior and use of space in bird exhibits at the Bronx Zoo (Bronx, NY, USA). SusanŐs interest is the study of behavior, ecology and conservation, especially of colonial waterbirds; she is the secretary of the Waterbird Society. In October 1999, Susan helped organize the Second International Flamingo Workshop. The proceedings will result in a special volume of the Waterbird Journal, featuring flamingo biology and an IUCN Action Plan for Flamingos.
